If you use this site, you agree to everything here as part of your Markeroni User Agreement.

Personal Information

When you sign up, we collect your user name, age and email address.

We also ask you to voluntarily give us some indication of where you live - county and state, province and country.

We do not display your age on the site anywhere. It is used solely for internal statistical purposes and to deter pre-teens from joining Markeroni.

We never sell or pass on your personal information or email address to anyone else, except where required by law.

The "where you live" request is entirely optional and is solely so that we may make sure there are historical markers and landmarks for you to find. It is not entered into any database.

Communication by Email

Your email address may be used to send you the following communications:

Updates newsletter
Notification that you have new Marker Mails
A daily digest summary of new "snarfs" (visits to historic sites)
Email notification of comments made to your journal entries, or replies made to comments you made on journal entries.

Initially, your account will be set up to receive all these types of communications. However, each of these is opt-out, and you may opt-out at the same time as you sign up. You may also subsequently subscribe and unsubscribe at will using your "Edit Profile" page.

In the case of a change which affects all users, such as a change to the privacy policy or user agreement, a one-time email notification may be sent to all members within a week of the change. This information will also be posted on the Web site in a prominent place.

For Parents/Guardians

We collect each individual's user name, age and email address for purposes of completing the membership registration process.

Because we take our obligations under the COPPA law seriously, we will not knowingly give an individual membership to anyone who is under 13 years of age. If it is subsequently brought to our attention that a member is under 13, we will terminate that membership immediately.

Family memberships are set up to allow a family's landmark-visiting efforts to appear together. Family memberships give one adult access to the forums and other tools inside the site. In order that everyone knows with whom they are dealing at all times, please refrain from allowing other members of your family to use the family ID. Individuals aged 13 and over may set up their own personal accounts if they wish to take part in the forums and other activities on their own.

We ask our members to keep the content of this site PG-13. However, it is an open site with a wide age- and experience-range, and some postings may not be suitable for children. It is possible that some postings may contain material which some parents don't want their children to see. As a parent, we expect you to monitor your own child's surfing and urge you to get actively involved in his or her online activities.

This site is about history. However, there is a general chit-chat forum and one never knows what an adult will post.

For Teens and Pre-Teens

We will not knowingly allow anyone under thirteen years of age to have an account at Markeroni. If you're not yet thirteen, please ask your parents to join under a family membership, and include you.

Remember to be smart online. Don't give out your full name, home address, telephone number or any other personal information that would allow someone to contact you without first asking your parent for permission.

We Don't Sell Your Information

Only if we sell a majority in interest of our company or our assets would your information be transferred to another third party. Such party would also be bound by our undertaking not to sell our member lists.

Your user name will be displayed on the site in various locations, including but not limited to the new arrivals area, profiles area, "Recent Snarfs" area, and forums.

Your Profile

As part of your membership, you are invited, but not required, to fill out a profile so that others can get to know you. Only members can view your profile, and this information is not made available elsewhere without your permission. We do, however, reserve the right to quote your user name anywhere, in any medium, without your permission.

The main user of a group or family membership should list some basic information about the members of the group. However, this can be nicknames, or it can simply be something general such as "daughter, age 6".

Logs and Server Information

We keep, and examine, server logs and session logs, which we use to measure the effectiveness of our site, how many people use it, and other such purposes. This is for our internal purposes only.

No cookies are set by Markeroni.com. However, our affiliates may set cookies, which are independent of Markeroni and not under its control.

Outside Links

We are NOT responsible for, nor are we able to check, any outside link posted by us or by members to Markeroni. Once you leave Markeroni via a link, all bets are off.
